Slight increase in commercial crime cases last year but losses dropped by 30%, says Johor top cop


JOHOR BARU: More than 4,000 commercial crime cases involving some RM181mil in losses were reported statewide last year, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar.

He said that while the number of cases showed a slight increase compared to 2023, the total losses dropped by about 30%.

“The state Commercial Crime Investigation Department opened a total of 4,290 investigation papers, with losses amounting to RM181.51mil last year, compared to 4,263 cases in 2023, involving RM261.03mil in losses," he said in his speech at the Johor police monthly assembly here on Friday (Jan 25).

Comm Kumar also noted that Johor police opened 444 investigation papers for robbery cases throughout last year.

“Of this number, 260 cases were solved, and 108 were brought to court.

“We also opened 166 investigation papers and arrested 256 people involved in contraband cases, leading to seizures worth about RM18mil,” he said.

On vice activities, police in the state conducted 677 raids and arrested 3,133 people involved in prostitution.

“Last year, we also recorded 3,008 arrests and seized goods worth RM806,580 in gambling operations,” he said.

Comm Kumar noted that Johor police also solved high-profile cases last year, including two kidnapping cases that resulted in the arrests of 26 individuals.
