Four injured following ammonia gas leak at Klang factory


PETALING JAYA: Four workers suffered burns while three others had breathing difficulties following an ammonia gas leak at a frozen food manufacturing company in Pulau Indah, Klang.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said sa distress call was received at 12.17pm on Friday (Jan 24).

"A total of 16 personnel, including from the Hazmat unit, were deployed to the scene.

"Four male workers suffered burns after an ammonia gas valve leaked.

"They were sent to the hospital by the factory's management before firemen arrived on scene," he said in a statement on Friday.

The leaked valve was successfully shut off at 3.10pm, he said.

"Three female workers had trouble breathing and were treated by Health Ministry personnel," he said.

He added a fireman also suffered from fatigue during the operation.
