TEL AVIV (BERNAMA-DPA): The Hamas-controlled health authority in the Gaza Strip accuses Israeli forces of having detained a hospital director, reported German news agency dpa.

Hussam Abu Safiya, director of the besieged Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, and dozens of other employees have been taken to a facility for interrogations, the authority said on Saturday (Dec 28).

The Israeli army did not immediately comment when asked.

Israel Defence Forces had launched an operation in the area around the hospital on Friday (Dec 27) morning, saying Hamas was using the building for military purposes and as a hiding place.

The World Health Organisation strongly condemned Israel's actions and accused it of systematically dismantling Gaza's health system.

WHO said the latest operation had put the Kamal Adwan Hospital "out of service". - Bernama-dpa
