Accident blocks Ipoh-Menora Tunnel route, causes 5km congestion

IPOH: An accident involving a tanker lorry and three cars on the North-South Expressway has resulted in all northbound lanes being blocked, causing a 5km crawl on Sunday (Dec 22).

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS), via an X post, reported that the incident occurred at Kilometre 264.4 of the expressway at 5:52pm.

The tanker lorry skidded, coming to rest sideways across the road, causing a traffic jam from Ipoh to the Menora Tunnel on Sunday.

PLUS advised motorists to adhere to traffic signage at the scene and use alternative routes to avoid further congestion.

Meanwhile, Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, told Sinar Harian that the tanker lorry had skidded and ended up sideways across the road.

“The accident did not result in any fatalities, and the 46-year-old lorry driver was unharmed.

“All lanes have been closed for now to facilitate vehicle removal operations,” he said.
