Cops nab orphanage caretaker for alleged rape of underage resident


KULAI: The police have arrested the caretaker of an orphanage here for allegedly raping one of its underage residents for two years.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the 59-year-old man was believed to have raped the victim at the private orphanage at Taman Mas when she was between 13 and 15 years old.

“Initial investigation shows that the victim, who is now 17 years old, was raped between 2020 and 2022.

“She was believed to have been raped by a local man, who is also the caretaker of the orphanage where she was a resident,” he said in a statement here on Friday (Dec 6) night.

ACP Tan said a police report about the case was lodged at about 9.48pm on Nov 29.

“Following the report, a raid was launched at about 3.00am on Nov 30 on a house in Taman Mas, and the man was arrested,” he said.

He added that the suspect is being remanded from Nov 30 until Dec 10 to assist in investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years with whipping.
