Cops raid communist-themed restaurant in Klang

KUALA LUMPUR: A restaurant in Bandar Botanic, Klang which serves food using communist-themed tableware has been raided by the police.

A police team from the South Klang CID raided the restaurant at about 10pm on Wednesday (Dec 4) after a video of the restaurant went viral on YouTube.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police took immediate action after discovering elements promoting communism.

"Police from South Klang police headquarters raided the restaurant and detained the 20-year-old manager.

"We also seized five ceramic bowls with photos of China's communist leader Mao Zedong and his compatriots, a ceramic mug with wording and photos, a soup spoon with Mao's photo and receipts," he said on Thursday (Dec 5).

He said initial investigations revealed that the suspect had been working at the restaurant since October and the tableware was purchased by the restaurant owner's friend who lives in China.

"We have remanded the suspect for two days and we will also check the restaurant's license," he said.

Razarudin said checks would also be conducted on the YouTube user who uploaded the video.
