Preparations begin for Ananda Krishnan's wake


KUALA LUMPUR: Preparations for the wake of the late billionaire and philanthropist T. Ananda Krishnan are underway at his residence along Jalan Berhala, Brickfields.

A visit by The Star at 10.30am on Monday (Dec 2) saw ongoing arrangements at the residence, with chairs and tables being arranged, a fence set up around the compound, and workers seen cleaning the surrounding area.

Security personnel were seen stationed guarding the premises.

According to an obituary published in The Star, the wake will take place at the Brickfields home on Dec 3.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Tatparanandam Ananda Krishnan on Nov 28, 2024, at the age of 86. Members of the public who wish to pay their last respects are welcome to attend the wake," the obituary stated.

The wake will be open to the public from 5pm to 9pm.

The family has requested that the event be a quiet affair, with no wreaths, flowers, or garlands sent.

Ananda Krishnan, one of Malaysia’s most prominent business figures, was estimated to have a net worth of USD 5.8bil (RM25.7bil).

Regularly featured on Forbes’ list of Malaysia’s wealthiest individuals, he was ranked as the third-richest person in the country.

A visionary entrepreneur, Ananda founded Malaysia’s second-largest mobile operator, Maxis Bhd, and the broadcasting and media giant Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd.

He was also the founder and chairman of Usaha Tegas and a key figure behind the Yu Cai Foundation.

Known for his low-profile lifestyle, Ananda Krishnan’s contributions to Malaysia’s corporate and philanthropic sectors remain unparalleled.

Details of the funeral arrangements are yet to be disclosed.
