Floods: MCA’s crisis relief squad helps evacuate victims in Kedah

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) has launched efforts to help people affected by the floods in the state.

CSRM state chief Heng Tan Kooi said the team in collaboration with Pertubuhan Bomba Sukarela Jalan Kundor, travelled to some of the worst hit areas in Kedah to help evacuate flood victims.

"Among the places we went were the northern part of Kedah, Kampung Alor Melintangand Gunung Keriang," he said in a statement.

Heng said rescue airboats were utilised to transport the elderly and individuals with limited mobility to evacuation centres.

He said the prolonged floods had disrupted water supply in some areas, impacting evacuation centres.

"CRSM actively worked and coordinated with the Pertubuhan Bomba Sukarela Jalan Kundor to deliver water, ensuring the supply needs of the evacuation centres were met," he added.

He said CRSM also sent volunteers to provide assistance to the people that have been safely evacuated to relief centres.

He advised residents in low-lying areas to remain alert, prepare essential supplies, and evacuate safely in accordance with the instructions from the relevant authorities when floods strike.

CSRM has also been updating flood situation and weather forecasts on its Facebook page, sharing information on relief efforts to help raise disaster preparedness awareness in the community.
