70yo man arrested for murder in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Police in Sabah's south-western Beaufort district have arrested an elderly man after he allegedly hacked a man in his 30s to death.

Beaufort OCPD Supt Wong Leong Meng said the suspect, a 70-year-old foreigner, was nabbed in the vicinity of Kampung Balibata 12 hours after police launched a massive manhunt following the discovery of the body early Thursday (Nov 21) morning.

He said the victim, believed to be a Filipino, was found lying on his back with cuts on his neck and elbow.

"The victim was lying fully clothed on the ground and covered in blood," he said here on Friday (Nov 22).

He said the victim had no identification documents.

He said following the discovery, teams from the district Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and a special investigation team from state headquarters launched a search for the suspect.

"The suspect was arrested near Kampung Balibata at about 2.30pm the same day," he said.

He said police also recovered a weapon believed to have been used by the suspect.

"We believe revenge was the motive. We are still investigating," he added.
