Firemen rescue 40 people trapped by water surge in Kelantan


KOTA BHARU: Forty people including 21 children were rescued by firemen after being trapped in a water surge incident in Kampung Gua Ikan, Dabong, Kuala Krai, on Thursday (Nov 21).

Dabong Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Aiman Aminuddin said they received an emergency call from a member of the public at 3.24 pm and rescuers reached the location six minutes later.

"We deployed seven personnel to the location to rescue all the trapped victims.

"The team used a boat to evacuate and transfer the victims to safety, and the rescue operation was completed by 5.13pm,” he said when contacted.

In light of the incident, the department advised the public to avoid all water-based recreational and extreme sports activities and to stay away from high-risk areas during the monsoon season.- Bernama
