Floods: Several river basins in Kelantan expected to be hit


PETALING JAYA: The Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) has updated its flood forecast to include several river basins in Kelantan.

This comes following the Malaysian Meteorological Department's (MetMalaysia) upgrade of the yellow alert for continuous rain over Johor and the East Coast to orange level for severe continuous rain.

As of 9.30am on Tuesday (Nov 19), the orange alert also covers the entire state of Terengganu.

The flood forecast is for the Sg Golok and Sg Kelantan basins in the districts of Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru and Tanah Merah.

The Sg Kelantan basin in Machang and Pasir Puteh is also expected to flood.

Others are the Sg Pengkalan Nangka basin in the Tumpat district, the Sg Gali basin, Sg Kemasin basin, and the Sg Semerak basin in Bachok.

On Monday (Nov 18), DID issued a flood warning in several river basin areas in Johor, starting Tuesday until Nov 23.

As at 12.06pm Tuesday, Sg Paya Dato in Mersing, Johor exceeded the danger level of 2.06m.
