Mum’s body kept in freezer

KUALA LUMPUR: For three-and-a-half years, a man has been living with the body of a woman stuffed into a freezer in his house. He kept the lights down, and stayed in the dark, hardly mingling with the neighbours.

The man, now 53, is believed to have killed the elderly woman – his mother – in 2021.

Sources said there was disagreement between the suspect and the victim over a religious issue.

The chilling truth of the murder came to light when the man contacted police and told them he was not well and that he had stuffed his mother’s body in a freezer.

On Tuesday, police inspected his double-storey house in Taman OUG and found the body. The man has been remanded until Nov 19.

Police are now investigating the motive behind the murder of the woman and if she really was his mother. They believe a personal dispute may have been behind the crime against the woman in her 80s.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the police will check his fingerprint and DNA profile.

“The 53-year-old suspect claimed many things, including that he is the victim’s son.

“Be that as it may, we are investigating. It is the same for the motive behind the murder,” he told reporters yesterday.

Comm Rusdi said a post-mortem examination will be conducted on the victim to find out the cause of death.

“We believe the body was stored in the freezer since 2021,” he said.

“He has no criminal record and we are still waiting for a medical report to ascertain the nature of his ailments.

“No previous reports were lodged over the victim going missing,” he said.

A neighbour, who declined to be identified said the man had been seen only three times in the last two weeks.

“He doesn’t mingle with the people here,” said the neighbour, who has lived in the area for 50 years.

The suspect’s immediate neighbour said he had not seen the dead woman for some time.

Another neighbour who declined to be named said the suspect seldom kept the lights on and the house was usually dark.

It is learnt that the suspect had financial problems as well as a chronic health problem.

Comm Rusdi had said the case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for post-mortem.
