Courier company apologises after van driver accidentally runs over sleeping dog


PETALING JAYA: A local courier company has apologised after one of its vans were caught in a viral video running over a dog sleeping on a road in Banting.

GDEX said the driver of the van had since been suspended.

"On Nov 6, a GDEX van driver had run over a stray dog that was lying on the road at Jalan Bunut 6, Taman Seri Bunut, in Banting, Selangor.

"It was an accident that we are deeply regretful for and we sincerely apologise for the unfortunate incident.

"The management has since suspended the driver from his duties and will take further disciplinary actions," it said in a statement.

The company said it was also enhancing its safety procedures and protocols.

"We thank those who have brought this issue to our attention and will do what is necessary to prevent such incidents in the future," it said.

In the viral video, the dog was lying in the middle of a residential road when the courier van ran over it. The animal was then seen limping and collapsing by the road.

The incident has since sparked backlash from netizens.
