Don’t do anything to damage Bersatu, Muhyiddin tells party members

MUAR: Bersatu members should remain patient and avoid doing anything that could damage the party's image, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional chairman said those feeling any discontent should not act impulsively as it could affect the reputations of the party or individuals involved.

"All arising issues, whether from the party's wing or the supreme council, should be addressed within the party framework.

"We have a party management committee and a disciplinary board to examine every matter, including party discipline," he said after officiating the 2024 Pagoh Bersatu Division Conference at Dewan Kompleks Geliga Grisek, Pagoh, on Saturday (Nov 2).

Muhyiddin was responding to comments about Tenggara Bersatu chief Hassan Rasid, who expressed his intention to leave the party along with 400 other division members.

In response, Muhyiddin urged them to reconsider, suggesting the issue might not be as severe as it appeared.

"Some issues might be due to technicalities. On talk of leaving the party, my advice is not to proceed. However, it is up to them to decide. To me what matters is for the party to continue its mission," he said.

Muhyiddin said party operations and representation in parliamentary and state constituencies will continue, despite internal differences.

"When someone steps down, there are always others ready to step up... we have established protocols in place," he said, adding that people are still eager to join the party.

Muhyiddin said that Bersatu, which was founded six years ago, had grown considerably with over 200 branches, 90 parliamentary and state representatives and approximately 700,000 members nationwide.

"This is common in politics, especially during elections when differing views are bound to emerge. But once the elections are over, we unite again," he said.
