School bus driver nabbed in Tawau after fatal crash involving teen biker


KOTA KINABALU: A teenage motorcyclist was killed after his vehicle went under a school bus in an accident along Jalan Kampung Kalabakan in Sabah's east coast Tawau district.

The 19-year-old victim identified as Shah Bakht Amin, 19, a Pakistani, suffered severe head and bodily injuries and was confirmed to have died at the scene of the accident at about 2.45pm on Monday (Oct 14).

Tawau fire station chief Jemishin Ujin said on Tuesday (Oct 15) that the motorcyclist was trapped under the bus and had to be extricated with special equipment.

The body was handed over to police at 5pm, he added.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmon Hussin said police arrested the 37-year-old school bus driver following the head-on accident at Mile 3 of a winding stretch on the Tawau-Kalabakan road.

"Our investigations showed that the driver was heading from Kg Kapilit towards Kalabakan and collided with a motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction," he said.

He said the driver, who does not have a driving licence, was believed to be under the influence of drugs at the time.

ACP Jasmon added that the probe is ongoing.
