Religious leader to face molestation charges in Port Dickson


PORT DICKSON: A 43-year-old religious leader will be charged at the magistrate's court here this morning for allegedly molesting a teacher undergoing practical training at a religious centre.

The accused, who wore a white robe and skullcap, was brought to the court around 8.40am.

He will be charged before magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani.

The offence was allegedly committed at the religious centre where the accused is a chairman.

The suspect, who is an ustaz, will be charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping, or any two of the punishments, if found guilty.

The accused is also expected to be charged for a second offence at the Sessions Court in Seremban later for committing physical sexual assault against a child.

He allegedly committed the offence at the same centre.

He is expected to be charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years and whipped upon conviction.
