14-year-old dies during football match in Semenyih, says Kajang police

KAJANG: A 14-year-old boy has died during a football match at a field in Semenyih.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the victim collapsed while playing football on Saturday (Sept 7).

"A football team coach lodged a report at about 4.08pm on Saturday over the incident.

"Investigations showed that the victim collapsed on the field during the first half of the match. He was then brought to a nearby clinic before being sent to Kajang Hospital.

"He died at 2.02pm on the same day while receiving treatment," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 9).

Post-mortem showed that the victim had a heart complication and he was also suffering from asthma, he said.

"We discovered that he had been suffering from asthma since he was little.

"The case has been classified as sudden death," he said.

ACP Naazron advised the public, especially parents, to send their children for medical checkups before allowing them to enter any sports activities or competitions.

"This is vital to prevent any untoward incident," he said.
