PETALING JAYA: It is crucial to distinguish between the various existing and emerging infectious diseases to understand transmission, symptoms and preventive measures, say three academicians.
In a statement Tuesday (Aug 27), Prof Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki, Dr Lim Say Hiang and Dr Lim Yin Cheng, from Universiti Malaya's social and preventive medicine department, said that while Mpox and Covid-19 are both caused by viruses, they are fundamentally different in origins, symptoms, transmission modes and treatment.
