Civil servant salary increase shouldn't be greeted by unreasonable price hikes, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Thursday (Aug 22) said that the government’s recent announcement on civil servant salary increase should not be greeted with unnecessary and unreasonable price hikes.

While making adjustments to the civil servant salary, he said the government also wished to control inflation.

"Of course, in such situations, we have to balance the demand and supply of workforces, services and products.

"That's why I think the 2024 Umno General Assembly must look at not just pressure but also at how we can contribute to strengthen the economy and restructure society,” he told a press conference after visiting the Media Centre provided for approximately 500 members of the press covering the party’s General Assembly.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said the role of ministers and deputy ministers from Umno was also deemed important in the delivery system especially to strengthen the Madani government through their respective ministries. - Bernama
