Missing girl found dead in swamp was raped and murdered, say Perak cops

SUNGAI SIPUT: The 10-year-old Orang Asli girl who was found dead in a swamp in Kampung Bersah in Pos Kuala Mu on Saturday is believed to have been raped and murdered.

Sungai Siput OCPD Supt Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin said a post-mortem report revealed that there were bruises on her neck and tears on her private parts.

"Investigation also believed that the victim may have been murdered elsewhere and dumped at the swamp," he said in a press conference on Sunday (Aug 18).

"The case, which had earlier been classified as sudden death, is now reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.

The girl was reported to have gone missing since Friday (Aug 16) and her body was found by search and rescue personnel on Saturday at about 4.30pm.

Supt Mohd Khaizam said a close relative of the victim was arrested on Sunday at about 5.30pm.

"The 17-year-old was arrested at his home in the village.

"We will get a court order to remand him tomorrow," he said.

"We also called on those with information of the matter to come forward to the police to assist with the investigations," he added.
