Cop injures ear in Ipoh shooting range incident


IPOH: A policeman was injured by a stray bullet while training at the VAT 69 Commando Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Training Complex here last Tuesday (Aug 6).

Perak police chief comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the 27-year-old Lans Korporal's left ear was injured in the 2.15pm incident.

"An Inspector accidentally discharged his firearm, striking the victim.

"The victim, who is part of the narcotics criminal investigation department at the Dungun police headquarters in Terengganu, was attending a firearms handling course along with 46 other trainees," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 9).

He said the officer was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment.

"The victim is in stable condition and is receiving outpatient treatment," he said.

Comm Azizi said trainees were instructed to unload their weapons before the session began under the supervision of the instructors," he said adding that during the session, a gun was discharged and the bullet struck the victim.

Comm Azizi said an investigation had been opened under Section 37 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971.
