Digital bank hits 750,000 customers milestone

PETALING JAYA: GX Bank Bhd (GXBank), the first digital bank to launch its services in Malaysia, has secured more than 750,000 customers as at the end of July.

GXBank, a Grab-led digital bank, said this is a huge leap from the 100,000 customers it recorded within the first two weeks of its debut in November last year.

GXBank chairperson Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan said about 500,000 of its total customers are GX Card users, and the bank has seen more than 13 million transactions collectively via GX Card and QR code.

She added that the growth signifies Malaysians’ preference for digitalising banking services and their trust in digital banking during this era.

She was speaking at the inauguration of the GXBank office and the launch of “GX Untuk Semua” by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Zaiton said the bank’s RM1.5bil investment in Malaysia over the next five years includes the establishment of the GX Untuk Semua initiative, further solidifying Malaysia’s position in the digital banking landscape.

She added that the GX Untuk Semua initiative focused on nurturing local tech talent, developing core competencies, best-in-class industry practices and innovative solutions.

This initiative will leverage the latest technology to address financial access and sustainable solutions for the underserved.

Some competencies and solutions that will be introduced are AI-based solutions for risk and fraud management and personal and micro, small and medium enterprise lending solutions.

“Backed by a talented workforce of more than 95% Malaysians, we are at the forefront of addressing the real financial needs of every Malaysian.

“In fact, through our financial inclusion initiative, Impian GIGih, we have provided bursaries to 1,200 recipients in Kelantan and Johor,” said Zaiton.

“Therefore, with GX Untuk Semua, we hope to harness the best of our talent and innovation to ensure no one is left behind in the digital economy era.”
