Gerik cops arrest man for attempting to kill wife on East-West Highway

IPOH: The police have arrested a 39-year-old man who allegedly attempted to kill his wife at KM31.2 of the East-West Highway in Gerik.

Gerik OCPD Supt Zulkifli Mahmood said the man was first arrested by the police in Baling, Kedah, for his involvement in a case there on Wednesday (July 31).

Supt Zulkifli said the man was then arrested by the Gerik police to complete the attempted murder case under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

"The man is said to have pushed his 32-year-old wife into a ravine at the highway.

"They had a heated argument and fought in their car earlier before the incident," he said in a statement.

"The woman managed to climb back up from the ravine and onto the road, where she was found by some passers-by," he said.

Supt Zulkifli said the woman, who was found to have suffered cuts and bruises, was then sent to Gerik Hospital for treatment.

"She is currently being treated at Taiping Hospital," he said, adding that the husband had a criminal record with previous drugs and petty offences.
