Man charged with trafficking more than 60kg of ganja in Iskandar Puteri


JOHOR BARU: A 28-year-old man was charged at a Magistrate's Court here for allegedly trafficking 63.4kg of cannabis two weeks ago in Iskandar Puteri.

The accused, T. Gaushigan, only nodded his head in acknowledgment after the charges were read out to him before Magistrate A. Shaarmini, here, on Thursday (June 20).

No plea was recorded from the accused.

According to the charge sheet, the accused had allegedly distributed 63,487g worth of cannabis at the roadside of Jalan Persiaran Tengah, Horizon Hills, Iskandar Puteri, at 2.30pm on June 8, 2024.

The act is an offence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurain Syafiqeen Mohd. Rozi, while the accused was not represented.

The court then set Aug 20 for the next mention of the case while waiting for the chemistry report.
