PUTRAJAYA: The theme for the 2024 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations – “Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka” – symbolises the integration of Malaysians from various cultures and ethnicities, says Fahmi Fadzil.
“Malaysia Madani is the backbone of the country’s prosperity and progress supported by six main core values,” explained the Communications Minister.
“Jiwa Merdeka expresses the people’s freedom from any negative elements in interpreting the patriotic spirit from the intellectual, social and economic aspects, while building public unity that is strong, harmonious and progressive.”
He said the Cabinet agreed to maintain the celebration’s logo that portrays the word “Malaysia Madani”.
He said this at the launch of the 2024 National Day and Malaysia Day celebration’s theme and logo at his ministry here.
Fahmi is also the celebration committee chairman.
The committee has planned several events to hype up the celebration nationwide.
“The launch of the National Month and Kibar Jalur Gemilang ceremony will take place on July 13.
“The ceremony will become the starting point for the grand celebration countdown that will be in Putrajaya on Aug 31.
“The momentum will then continue to the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16 in Sabah,” he said.
A vehicle convoy, Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang, will also travel nationwide with special activities to promote patriotism during the National Month, he added.
Details of other programmes in conjunction with the National Month will be made available at www.merdeka360.my.
Fahmi also urged all Malaysians to participate in the “Inisiatif 1 Rumah, 1 Jalur Gemilang”, where each household puts up the national flag.
“Decorate your houses with the flag that represents our identity on the global stage,” he added.
Last year, more than 100,000 people attended the National Day 2023 celebration at Dataran Putrajaya.
Themed “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan”, last year’s National Day celebration involved 17,262 participants, 67 contingents, 36 brass bands, 534 land and air assets, and 100 service animals.
