Fire destroys longhouse in remote Baram

SIBU: A longhouse in the remote area of Baram was destroyed by fire on Tuesday (May 28), affecting 46 people.

In its daily update, the State Fire and Rescue Department said it took firemen from Marudi station six hours to arrive at the scene due to the remoteness of the 14-door in Kampung Bangan Apoh, Baram.

"The fire started at about 5am. Villagers managed to stop the fire by pouring water from spreading to the adjacent longhouse, which is just three metres away," it said.

There are 102 doors of longhouses in the area.
