Cops probe Chef Wan over comment on Aishwarya Rai's Cannes outfit

PETALING JAYA: Police have confirmed that Bukit Aman CID's Special Investigation Unit (USJT) is investigating celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, better known as Chef Wan (pic), over a social media post involving Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai.

Chef Wan had commented on an outfit worn by the Indian actress on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival recently, Malay language news portal Astro Awani reported.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari, when contacted by the portal, confirmed that a police report had been lodged.

"However, the case has been handed over to the USJT as it involves a 3R (race, religion and royalty) issue," he said on Monday (May 27).

ACP Ahmad Sukarno also reminded the public not to touch on 3R issues on any platforms as it could threaten safety and disturb the peace of Malaysia's multiracial society.

Chef Wan's comment had drawn widespread condemnation from Internet users.

His comment was a reaction to a video of Aishwarya at the Cannes Film Festival posted on Instagram by Namaste Bollywood inviting users to state "the first thought that comes to mind".
