SERDANG: Grantt Lubricants announced the launch of its groundbreaking Electric Vehicle (EV) Brake Fluid and EV Premix Coolant Electra at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, which was held at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), Selangor on May 22.

The company also unveiled its latest performance series, the Stellar API SP in the Passenger Car Motor Oil (PCMO) category.

These products are designed to meet the evolving needs of modern vehicles, including electric vehicles, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Grantt Lubricants is a brand under UMW Grantt International Sdn Bhd, which is a wholly- owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad. The brand has been in the market as early as 2015.

The launch was officiated by UMW managing director Mustamir Mohamad and accompanied by manufacturing and engineering director Anas Nasrun Mohd Osman.

Anas said that Grantt Lubricants adheres to the stringent quality control measures throughout the manufacturing process, from sourcing premium raw materials to conducting rigorous testing in state-of-the-art facilities.

“These lubricants are fully developed in Malaysia and by local experts.

“We have over 55 years of experience in producing internationally renowned lubricants.

“Grantt Lubricants products are made from premium quality base oil and additives and we offer a full range of lubricants that cater to cars, motorcycles and diesel-powered vehicles under various names, such as Stellar, Quadra and Quasar.

“Our products undergo extensive testing to ensure they meet or exceed industry standards and deliver exceptional performance in real-world conditions.”

Trend towards EVs

According to Mustamir, Grantt Lubricants recognises the growing trend towards EVs and the unique lubrication needed for EVs.

“We are committed to stay at the forefront of innovation and addressing the evolving needs of the automotive industry. We’re developing products specifically designed for EVs, allowing us to support this transition towards cleaner and also more sustainable transportation,” he added.

Both Mustamir and Anas said these products will be available in Q2, which means it would be ready for purchase by end May or early June.

Mustamir mentioned that the demand for EV cars and American Petroleum Institute’s (API) SP compliant products are on the rise in Malaysia.

“We are collaborating with industry stakeholders in terms of product development to ensure that we comply with the API standards, while also providing training programmes to customers in terms of the usage of the product.

“This multifaceted approach will hopefully meet the market demand.”

Mustamir explained that the Grantt Brake Fluid DOT 4 EV was designed to specifically meet the demands of electric vehicle braking systems by offering optimised performance and durability.

“Its high boiling points, low viscosity and compatibility with electric and hybrid vehicle gaskets and seals make it an ideal choice for modern electric vehicles,” he added.

The fluid meets or exceeds industry standards, such as the JIS K2233 and FMVSS No. 116 - DOT 4, to ensure reliable performance and component durability in electric vehicle braking systems.

Its excellent thermal stability and prevention of foam formation contribute to consistent and effective braking performance, especially in advanced braking systems like the anti-lock braking system, traction control system, electronic stability programme or dynamic stability control.

New motor oil standard

Anas explained that Grantt Stellar API SP provide ultimate protection during cold engine start-up, ensuring smooth operation and reduced wear on critical engine components.

He pointed out that while most Asean countries are still using the existing SN-standard products, the company is moving towards the SP-compliant standard as the products are better.

“Using a motor oil that follows the API SP standard helps maintain the car by taking care of the engine.”

Its superb fuel economy performance helps optimise fuel efficiency while reducing overall operating costs. The SP standard oils produce less carbon emissions, which is inline with Sime Darby Berhad’s Sustainability Blueprint.

As the products are low in emission, they help maintain the efficiency of the car engine and prolonged lifespan.

“The oil standard is more compliant towards reaching the ambitions of lower carbon emissions and helps us in our journey towards 30% reduction by 2030,” said Anas.

The Grantt Stellar API SP products made for internal combustion engine cars address the Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) concerns in turbocharged vehicles by using the “Knock Guard” technology.

Though random and infrequent, LSPI sometimes result in catastrophic engine damage.

The problems are usually addressed with an updated oil based on performance standards, such as API SP.

Products such as these meet the ILSAC GF-6A standard and more, to ensure optimal engine performance and protection.

“The combination of advanced technology and compliance with industry standards guarantee superior performance and peace of mind for drivers,” said Anas.

New, larger facility

The company operates out of its new facility in Pulau Indah, Klang since June, last year.

It is equipped with Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0)-ready technology that allows the company to enhance efficiency, productivity and quality.

The facility is able to produce up to 60 million litres per year and operates 24 hours a day.

Future plans

The brand will mark another milestone with the launch of Grantt Parts on June 4.

Its future plans will focus on increasing production capacity, enhancing sustainability and expanding market presence to meet the evolving needs of its customers and the global shift towards more environmentally friendly products.

The company also manufactures other products such as grease, automotive transmission fluid, hydraulics, industrial oil and bio-lubricants.

“We also aim to expand our market reach to Asean countries, namely Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore,” shared Anas.

“With Grantt entry into parts such as batteries, filters and more, we plan to make Grantt a complete one-stop centre in automotive servicing. Move Further, Last Longer,” added Anas.
