SEREMBAN: The Undang of Rembau Datuk Muhamad Sharip Othman passed away early on Wednesday (May 15) morning. He was 83.

The Balai Rasmi Undang Luak Rembau said in a short statement that the deceased would be buried at the Kg Mungkal Sepri cemetery after Asar prayers today.

VVIPs who wish to pay their last respects can do so after Zohor prayers.

The Undang of Rembau is one of the four influential chieftains in Negri Sembilan.

The other three are the Undang of Sungei Ujong, Undang of Jelebu and Undang of Johol.

The four among others act as advisors to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

These four Undang are powerful because of their responsibilities, which include selecting the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.

The four Undang have different titles which reflect the uniqueness of the Adat Perpatih, a matrilineal system practised only in Negri Sembilan.
