Heavy rains causes flash floods at four villages in Sik

SIK: A one-hour heavy downpour caused four villages here to be hit by flash floods.

According to the Civil Defence Force (CDF) the villages affected are Kampung Lalang, Kampung Lubuk Tualang, Kampung Bendang Man and Kampung Jerai.

Sik district CDF officer Lt Haisul Aishah Mohd Napiah said the heavy rain started at 8.30am in Sik with flood caused by the rapid rise of water of up to 0.9 meters.

"We monitored the water level in Sungai Chepir at 9.30am and found that several villages had started to flood.

"The Charuk Tebal River in Kampung Lalang and Kampung Lubuk Tualang was at a dangerous level, but at 10am it started receding," he said to an online portal on Saturday (May 11).

Haisul Aishah said they had been monitoring Sungai Chepir in Kampung Bendang Man but it had shown that the water level was receding.

"So far we have not opened any temporary evacuation centres and we are still monitoring the situation for the safety of the residents," he said.
