IP on extortion case linked to five cops to be handed over to AGC, says Bukit Aman CID director


KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will be handing over the investigation papers (IP) involving the five policemen arrested over RM1.25mil extortion case to the Attorney-General Chambers (AGC) on Thursday.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the remand order on the five would also expire on the same day, Thursday (May 9).

"We will submit the IP to the AGC for the next course of action," he told reporters on Wednesday (May 8).

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the Inspector General of Police or him would release more information on the case within the next two days.

On May 3, a probe was initiated which saw three senior police officers arrested over the purported extortion.

The senior officers with the rank of Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Superintendent and Inspector, between the ages of 38 and 50, were arrested near Jalan Tun Razak.

Investigations were being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Unit, Law/Prosecution, Criminal Investigation Department, Bukit Aman, under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

In a follow-up operation, two more policemen with the rank of Inspector and Sergeant, were picked up a day later.

All the five suspects were remanded to assist in the investigation.
