Senior citizen dies after apparent heart attack while driving

BATU PAHAT: An elderly man died after suffering a heart attack while driving, resulting in a crash with another vehicle here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said the 71-year-old man was heading towards Jalan Pantai from Batu Pahat town when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid, at about 8pm on Thursday (May 2).

"His car then rammed into the back of another car in a parking lot with three people on board.

"The man was believed to have suffered a heart attack right before the accident.

"Early investigations found that there were no signs of injury on the victim’s body," he said in a statement on Friday (May 3).

ACP Ismail said the man died at the scene while the 24-year-old woman driver of the other car and her two passengers sustained minor injuries.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
