Villagers prepare for Joanna’s funeral

KUCHING: Able Seaman I Joanna Felicia Rohna (pic), who perished in the crash involving two navy helicopters in Lumut, will be buried at Kampung Engkaroh Tebakang in Serian today.

Her uncle Bateh Mangkok, 65, said over 20 villagers held a gotong-royong to prepare the burial site at Kampung Engkaroh’s Christian cemetery yesterday.

“We are now waiting for the body to arrive from Perak to Kuching and then to the village here.

“This was such a sudden and shocking incident. We are all very sad,” he said.

Joanna’s younger sisters Honey Vivianne, 16, and Diyanne Yanz, 14, said they wanted to see their sister for the final time before the burial.

Joanna, who was married with two children, was the eldest among five siblings.

She was from Kampung Sumpas Tampek in Serian, but her remains will be buried at the cemetery at her husband’s village in Kampung Engkaroh Tebakang.
