Driver who honked near Penang mosque did so accidentally, say police

GEORGE TOWN: The driver of the vehicle that honked its horn near Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong in Penang did so accidentally, says George Town OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid.

"When he honked, it attracted the crowd that then surrounded his car," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 25).

He added that the driver of the car also said that he was unaware about the event at the mosque.

The incident took place on Wednesday (April 24) during the burial rites of one of the Navy personnel who was tragically killed after two helicopters collided during training in Lumut.

ACP Razlam said that the situation was brought under control after on-duty Navy personnel and policemen acted swiftly.

He added that the police advised the public to refrain from speculating on the incident.

ACP Razlam urged the public not to speculate about the incident to avoid disrupting the police investigation.
