Suspected snatch thief caught in Langkawi

KLANG: The alleged snatch thief who caused a woman to fall off her motorcycle and suffer multiple injuries near a school in Persiaran Raja Muda Musa has been caught in Langkawi.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong said personnel from the Langkawi tourist police unit arrested the 24-year-old suspect in front of the Penarak Food Court in Kuah at around 4.15pm on Sunday.

“Checks showed the suspect has a record for crime and drug-related offences. We also seized several items to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement.

ACP Cha added that the suspect has been remanded for four days.

“The investigating officer is in the midst of completing the investigation papers. We urge anyone with information on the incident to come forward,” he said.

Police initially received a report from the 20-year-old victim on April 15 who claimed that the incident occurred at around 8.50am while she was on the way to work.

She said she was riding along Persiaran Raja Muda Musa when a man approached her on another motorcycle from behind and grabbed her sling bag, causing her to fall.
