Special 'Istisqa' prayers to end dry spell in Johor

KLUANG: About 100 people joined in a special "Istisqa" prayer at the Sembrong Dam here in hope of putting an end to the dry spell.

State Islamic religious affairs committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said according to the meteorological department, Kluang meteorological station has recorded the Standardised Precipitation Index (SPI) of between medium dry and very dry.

“We take the drought issue that is affecting several areas in the country very seriously,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (April 23).

The prayer was organised by the district office here in collaboration with the Johor Islamic Religious Department.

Mohd Fared said the ‘Istisqa’ prayers and special sermons would also be held in other districts.
