Man claims he still loves wife he tried to shoot at airport

PETALING JAYA: The man suspected of attempting to kill his estranged wife at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport says he still loves her.

“I still love my wife, Farah Md Isa, thank you,” Hafizul Harawi told reporters as he arrived at a Magistrate’s Court in Kota Baru yesterday for a remand extension proceeding.

According to Sinar Harian, Hafizul, 38, was handed a further five-day extension until April 27 by Magistrate Ahmad Syafiq Aizat Nazri after hearing the application of investigating officer Asst Supt Siti Yusnita Yaacub.

The extension was to assist investigations under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 8 (a) of the Arms Act 1960.

Earlier, the suspect, who was clad in an orange lockup attire, arrived at the court compound at 8.35am under strict security by a police team from the Special Investigations Division (D9) of the Criminal Investigation Department.

He is suspected of firing two shots at Farah, a travel agency owner, at about 1.30am on April 14 while she was awaiting the return of her clients from the umrah.

While Farah was unharmed, her bodyguard was wounded in the stomach while shielding her.

He underwent intestinal surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma before regaining consciousness on Saturday.

Separately, his two children are eagerly awaiting to meet their injured father after being told about his positive development.

Muhammmad Nur Hadith Zaini’s wife, Siti Noraida Hassan, 38, told Bernama that two of their three children were communicating with him through video calls.

“They want to see their papa but I haven’t brought them yet. I only connect them via video calls for now.

“Perhaps later, when their papa is transferred to a normal ward, I will bring (the children to see him),” Siti Noraida said.

She also said she and several family members were allowed to visit him at Hospital Cyberjaya.

“Next of kin and I could visit him from day one. Only children were not allowed,” she said.

The hospital stopped using a ventilator when Muhammmad Nur Hadith started to regain consciousness and is recovering.
