Woman dies, man severely injured in Papar accident


KOTA KINABALU: A woman was killed and a man was severely injured when the car they were on collided with another vehicle during an accident along Kampung Tanaki, Papar on Monday (April 22).

The driver of the other car sustained minor injuries during the mishap that occurred along a stretch of the Pan Borneo highway there.

No further details were obtained about the victims as of press time.

The Fire and Rescue Department initially received the emergency call at 2.50pm where a team from Papar fire station was sent to the location and was assisted by the police and the Health Ministry staff on site.

“There were two victims – a man and a woman - who were stuck in one car and were extracted by the firemen.

“The man who suffered major injuries was taken to Papar district hospital using an ambulance while the woman was pronounced dead on location by the health officials present, and the body was handed over to the police for further actions.

“Meanwhile, the other driver who was hurt was taken to the hospital earlier by civilians before the team arrived,” said the department spokesman.
