USAS student killed in Kuantan car crash, three others injured


KUANTAN: A Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) student, Nurul Izati Yunus, 23, was killed when the car she was in crashed into a tree before bursting into flames on Jalan Ulu Gali-Jelu in Raub.

Raub district police chief Supt Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said four people were in the car heading to Petaling Jaya after celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri at Kampung Lechar, Raub at 12.45am on Saturday (April 13).

"The father, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle which skidded to the right and crashed into a tree. The car then caught fire," he said in a statement on Saturday (April 13).

He said that the victim was trapped in the front passenger seat despite her father's efforts to free her.

He said the father, retiree Yunus Hassan, 66, suffered minor injuries, while his wife, Ainar Ibrahim, 61, sustained leg injuries while the victim's brother Muhammad Nazmi Yunus, 29, injured his neck.

All three received treatment at Raub Hospital.

Mohd Shahril said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
