Man suffers burns while trying to steal live power cables in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A man has suffered burns after trying to steal cables from a Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) substation in Kampung Gentisan, near here.

Kota Kinabalu Deputy OCPD Superintendent Kalsom Idris said the man, in his 30s, suffered burns to his face, neck, shoulder and right arm.

Another accomplice, who was also hurt in the 3am incident on Monday (April 1), managed to escape.

Initial investigations revealed that a loud bang was heard before the electricity was cut off.

"Villagers heard voices shouting for help and found the victim wailing in pain, with his face burnt," said Kalsom, adding the suspect was taken to Likas Hospital for further treatment.
