Local govt authority officer charged with outraging modesty of subordinate


KOTA BHARU: An officer of a local government authority here pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to two charges of using force with intent to outrage the modesty of a subordinate female staff.

Syahrul Nizam Shuib, 45, made the plea before Magistrate Imran Hamid.

On both charges, he was charged with committing the offence to the 23-year-old woman in his office at about 9.30 am on Oct 24 and Oct 26 last year.

The charge, framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 10 years or a fine or whipping or any of the two punishments if convicted.

The court allowed Syahrul Nizam bail of RM5,000 and set May 28 for mention for submission of documents.

Syahrul Niuzal, represented by lawyer Muhammad Fariduddin Mat Noor, was also ordered not to intimidate the victim and witnesses in the case.
