In a statement yesterday, KUIPs board of directors chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, who is also Perlis Mufti, said the bonus was to help the 250 staff members prepare for Aidilfitri.

The statement said the Mufti announced the BKK during iftar with members of the Board, KUIPs management executives and staff in Kuala Perlis yesterday, Bernama reported. In the same statement, KUIPs rector Prof Dr Muhamad Rozaimi Ramle, said that a total of 250 KUIPs staff will each receive the bonus.

“With this announcement, I hope all staff will improve their performance and be ready to serve this university better while spending responsibly for Aidilfitri,” he said.Meanwhile, the Perlis Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) said a total of 836.65kg of unsold food and drinks from the Arau Ramadan bazaar was salvaged through the MySavefood programme from March 19 to 26.

Its director Shamsuharizal Basir said a total of 675kg were unsold drinks and the remaining 161.65kg was unsold food.“SWCorp is holding the MySavefood programme in collaboration with Gema Malaysia Youth Organisation through Hero Kebersihan volunteers, involving lecturers and students of Universiti Malaysia Perlis.

“This programme will only be implemented for eight days from March 19 to 26. Surplus food from the Arau Ramadan Bazaar is distributed to the asnaf (needy) group,” he said at the Arau Ramadan bazaar here on Tuesday night.

Shamsuharizal said Ramadan bazaar traders can reduce waste by planning more effectively in preparing the required amount of food and drinks.

“The same goes for Ramadan bazaar visitors... They must plan their purchases to prevent food and drinks from going to waste,” he said.Shamsuharizal also said the waste sent to landfills during last year’s Ramadan decreased by 3.7% compared to 2022.

“This demonstrates the effectiveness of SWCorp’s campaign, in partnership with the state government, Kangar Municipal Council and NGOs.

“SWCorp hopes that the waste generation will reduce further this year,” he said.
