Senior enforcement agency officer held for abetment in RM1.8mil false claims case


PUTRAJAYA: A senior officer of an enforcement agency has been remanded for alleged abetment in submitting false claims amounting to RM1.8mil for vessel maintenance works.

The one-day remand order against the suspect, in his 40s, was issued on Wednesday (March 27).

Magistrate Siti Noor Hasliza Md Ali allowed the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) which was submitted at an Alor Setar Magistrate's Court.

It is learnt that the suspect was arrested at the Kedah MACC office at 5pm on Tuesday (March 26) when he was summoned to record his statement.

Kedah MACC director Ahmad Nizam Ismail confirmed the arrest.

On Tuesday, the MACC arrested four individuals, including a company owner and logistics director of an enforcement agency, for allegedly working in cohort in submitting false claims for the maintenance of the agency’s vessels.

They were believed to have committed the offence between July and November 2020.
