Fahmi: He should just keep his mouth shut

NO one from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had given a draft agreement on constituency funds to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The unity government spokesman said he had checked with the PMO and confirmed that no draft agreement was issued.

“The PM’s senior political secretary did not provide any draft and I contacted a few political secretaries (too) – there was none,” he told a press conference in Parliament yesterday.

Fahmi was responding to recent claims by Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who said that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had supplied a draft agreement on constituency funds to Hamzah.

He then trained his guns on Wan Ahmad and said: “We refer to official channels. If Machang MP does not know about this issue, he should just keep his mouth shut.

“I’m not sure if Machang MP prints his own draft, because he once proposed to print more money to solve the national economy problem,” he added.

Fahmi said Wan Ahmad had probably made those claims to back Hamzah, who, on March 22, had claimed that the Opposition received a draft document detailing matters pertaining to allocations for Opposition MPs.

At a press conference later, Wan Ahmad remained defiant and stood by his claims about the draft agreement on constituency funds.

“I’m not sure why he (Fahmi) was so emotional, as I was merely answering to allegations by backbencher government MPs claiming that the Opposition was (committing libel).

“On this matter, I was merely explaining to the people about discussions on this draft agreement.

“Whether or not (it is real), it is up to the Opposition leader and the chief whip. I leave it there.

“(But) I can confirm there is (one),” he maintained.

On Monday, Wan Ahmad said the purported draft agreement was kept a secret, even after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof met with Hamzah in Parliament on March 19.

Fadillah denied the existence of such an agreement, saying that his meeting with Hamzah on March 19 was merely a session to listen to the Opposition’s requests and offers.

Previously, Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid claimed that Perikatan Nasional had asked for RM3.5mil in annual allocations for its MPs and the draft agreement also included a RM300,000 annual allocation for the management of MPs’ service centres.
