Heatwave: Eight localities in peninsula facing up to 40 degrees Celcius


PETALING JAYA: A total of eight localities in Peninsular Malaysia are now under Level 2 heatwave.

According to the latest advisory from MetMalaysia, the whole of Perlis is under Level 2 heatwave, as well as parts of Kedah and Perak.

The areas are Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Pokok Sena, Sik, Hulu Perak, Baling and Kota Setar.

Under Level 2 heatwave status, daily maximum temperature can go up to between 37 degrees Celcius and 40 degrees Celcius for three days consecutively.

This is the largest number of localities that have been struck by Level 2 heatwave since the dry hot season began this year, exacerbated by an ongoing El Nino.

Kinta and Kuala Kangsar in Perak, and Pendang and Kuala Muda in Kedah are under Level 1 heatwave of between 35 degrees Celcius and 37 degrees Celcius of three days consecutively.

Earlier on Saturday (March 23), Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said all outdoor activities needed ti be suspended at schools located in Level 1 heatwave areas.
