Rice price unchanged in Sarawak and Sabah

SIBU: Consumers in Sarawak and Sabah will continue to enjoy the same price for imported white rice.

“Bernas (Padiberas Nasional Bhd) has reduced the retail price of imported white rice by RM2 to RM3 per 10kg bag.

“This only affects West Malaysia and not Sabah and Sarawak,” said a wholesaler Eric Wong.

According to Wong, who is also a member of Sibu Rice Wholesalers Association, they had also been informed by Kawalselia Padi and Beras that there would be no change in the price of imported rice for both states.

He said this was because the Federal Government is spending RM400mil a year for 950 metric tonnes as rice subsidy for both states since last October.

Imported white rice in the state is sold at RM31 for a 10kg pack.
