‘Melaka has enough water for Raya’

MELAKA: The state government has given reassurances that there is sufficient water supply for the Hari Raya festive season in the wake of the El Nino phenomenon.

Melaka works, infrastructure, public amenities and transport committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer said water levels in all three dams were satisfactory.

“The levels have not reached a critical stage, so we have enough water up to June,” he said after visiting a pump house at Ayer Keroh Lake yesterday.

Hameed Mytheen said the storage capacity of Durian Tunggal dam was at 80%, Jus dam (95.7%) and Asahan dam (95.5%).

“Our storage capacity can last for the next two months even if there is not a single drop of rain recorded,” he said.

Hameed Mytheen also said the state government would make necessary preparations to brace for a prolonged dry spell.

“We hope the public can alert us if they come across any water leakage,” he said.

Hameed Mytheen also said the supply at Ayer Keroh Lake was not dwindling rapidly due to hot weather, as speculated by some parties.
