Party leader detained over alleged sexual assault of teen boy in Johor


MERSING: A party leader has been arrested by the police for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage boy, here.

It was said that the man holds a high position in the Youth wing of a political party in the district.

When contacted by The Star, Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani confirmed the arrest, saying that the 36-year-old man was detained on Monday (March 18).

"The arrest followed reports from two individuals, which claimed that the suspect had sexually assaulted the 15-year-old boy.

"The suspect has been placed under police remand from Tuesday (March 19) until Thursday (March 21) to assist in investigation," he said.

He, however, denied having information whether the suspect was linked to any political parties.

Asked whether there were more than one victim involved in the case, Supt Abdul Razak said investigations were still ongoing to find out more information as the incident took place some time ago.
