KUALA LUMPUR: Cloud seeding operations carried out must be effective and as they are an expensive and complex exercise, says Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

"For that, we need to look at the condition of the clouds, the wind and several other appropriate variables before any cloud seeding operation," said the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister.

He added that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) will give the appropriate directive for cloud seeding operations to counter the current hot weather.

"Cloud seeding operations are carried out with the cooperation of the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) when it is suitable.

"Such operations are also not cheap, so when we actually carry them out, it has to be effective," he said on Saturday (March 16).

He was commenting on the 23 heatstroke cases recorded by the Health Ministry this week.
