Cops arrest Bella’s elder sister to help with investigations

BATU PAHAT: The elder sister of the murdered single mother, Mila Sharmilah Samsusah, better known as Bella, has been arrested by the police.

Norisham Samsusah, 36, was arrested for sharing the picture of a four-year-old believed to be a family member of Bella’s boyfriend, who is also the suspect in the case.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said in a statement that the police received a report on the incident on March 8 from a woman who reported that a picture of her child was shared through a livestream on TikTok.

“On Wednesday (March 13), at 2.10am, a team of police detained a 36-year-old woman to record her statement at the Batu Pahat District Police.

“We have also confiscated a mobile phone believed to have been used by the suspect during the live session to help with the investigation,” he said.

The suspect has been brought to the Batu Pahat Magistrate Court for a remand order, which Magistrate Court Judge Nurasidah A. Rahman has granted for one day.

The case is being investigated under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001 for sharing information that would lead to the identification of the child.

Upon conviction, the Act carries a fine of not more than RM10,000, imprisonment of not more than 10 years, or both.

“We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public not to create any speculation that could disturb the investigation,” he said.

On Jan 24, a former postman was charged in the Magistrate's Court here with the murder of his girlfriend in Tongkang Pechah.

Mohammad Haikal Mahfuz, 25, was charged with murdering Bella, 32, between 11pm on Dec 14 and 5.30am on Dec 15 last year between Jalan Kelapa Bali, Taman Soga and Jalan Parit Besar, Kampung Parit Besar, and also at an abandoned house at Lorong Imam Jailani, Jalan Besar, Tongkang Pechah, Batu Pahat.

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty.

On Dec 14, it was reported that Bella, a single mother of two children, could not be contacted after she was last seen leaving the house in her boyfriend's car wearing only a dark blue caftan to do laundry at a laundromat.

On Friday, an incomplete human skeleton was found in an abandoned house at Lorong Imam Jailani, Batu Pahat, after one of the arrested suspects led the police to the scene.
